A Question for 2011

“We waste our lives when we do not pray and think and dream and plan and work toward magnifying God in all spheres of life. God created us for this: to live our lives in a way that makes Him look more like the greatness and the beauty and the infinite worth that He really is.” John Piper (from “Don’t Waste Your Life”)

How can you magnify God more in 2011 than you did in 2010?

Deaconesses = Trouble?

I heard something said recently that has been on my mind since, so I am putting it out here for your input. I sincerely welcome your thoughts as this seems to be a multi-faceted issue. I'm not trying to be divisive, but am offering an opportunity to listen to each other and learn.

“If I go into a church and see that they have deaconesses, I automatically cross that church off my list. Because in my experience, churches with deaconesses are liberal, with bad theology, and they interpret the Bible however they want.”

Your thoughts?

Lyn has the proven ability to say, share or ask where many would gloss over, over-generalize or not go. Lyn is clear and forthright when sharing about her self, without pretense and is not ambiguous about her past, its impact or the hope and healing that she has experienced.

I’ve always thought of the Bible as a man’s book. Lyn makes the Bible a woman’s book.

She always takes a person to the truth that God loves them, and reminds them that their past and present struggles do not change that. She gently, but clearly and directly shares the truth with them and deposits them at the foot of the cross so they can see their Savior, not her.

Lyn touched our hearts in so many ways during her visit to the Table Rock Freedom Center. Each girl walked away with a new perspective on dealing with the pain of their addictions. She was authentic and full of grace. We can’t wait to have her back.

You were funny, articulate, engaging, as well as transparent. Your message resonated with so many of our women, and I love how you wove both Biblical stories and your own personal experiences throughout.
