Carrying Your Corner?
You probably know the story in Mark 2 of the paralyzed man. Jesus was in a home preaching when the man’s friends brought him to be healed. There was such a large crowd that they couldn’t get into the house, so they made an opening in the roof above Jesus and lowered the mat with the man on it. When Jesus saw “their” faith, he healed the man and forgave his sins.
While I am very happy for the formerly paralyzed man, and always in awe of Jesus’ magnificence, it is the friends in this story that impress me. They believed for their friend. They made the effort for their friend. They were undaunted by the crowd and used creativity to get their friend to Jesus.
Based on other interactions Jesus had with people, it is reasonable to believe that He knew they were outside trying to get in.
Freedom Friday - Fear
Last week we talked about how important what we believe about God is on our journey to freedom from any strongholds, areas of bondage, or sin habits. Our bottom line in success will be our belief system.
However, there is a secondary area of importance, and that is fear. It is one of our enemy’s primary ways of derailing us, which is why Jesus told us so many times not to be afraid. He knew it would be an easy default emotion and one that could keep us from taking hold of all He has for us. Fear paralyzes, causes us to panic, or leads to retreat.
Freedom Friday - Responding to Reality

Unfortunately, I heard a popular, reality TV star interviewed. During the interview she said she really doesn’t like to drink so much that she blacks out. It happens quite often but it bothers her to not know where she was the night before or what she did. She especially doesn’t like it when she wakes up in a garbage can. (lots of laughter from her and the audience) “How often does that happen?” asked the host. “About once a month.” (more laughter)
That conversation was disturbing enough but then the commentator remarked, “A lot of kids look up to her.” They do? Why? When did blacking out become the standard our kids want to live down to? How is waking up in a garbage can, unaware of how you got there, attractive? What makes that funny?
