Want Freedom? Be Real

Last week, God gave me the opportunity to go to Table Rock Freedom Center in Branson, MO. It is a 12 month Christ-centered residential program for "women overcoming life controlling issues." In other words, addictions.

It is tempting to think about people in those situations as "troubled" or "having problems." And that that somehow makes them different.

Actually, I did find them different. They are honest. They easily admit their struggles and failures. They don't keep secrets about themselves. They are pursuing health and wholeness in all areas. They have a sweet camaraderie born of knowing each other and being united in purpose.

As we sat around the dining table, there was much laughter and story telling. I noticed freedom in their interactions that I seldom see. They serve together. Serve each other. They embrace readily.  They have risked being known and are experiencing release.

They have welcomed denial of themselves in order to thrive in Christ.

These women are the brave ones. They are living as Jesus intended.

As I drove away I wondered, who are "the troubled?" The ones who know it and get help, or the ones who refuse to think about it and lead quiet lives of desperation? The ones who laugh and love, or the ones who quietly slip in and out, hoping no one notices?

You may not be addicted to drugs, alcohol, food or sex.  But what about pride ... lying ... fear ... bitterness ... power ... self?

"Surely You desire truth in the inner parts ... create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me." Psalm 52:6,10

"Investigate my life, O God, find out everything about me; Cross-examine and test me, get a clear picture of what I'm about." Psalm 139:23-24 (The Message)

From what do you need to be set free?

Lyn has the proven ability to say, share or ask where many would gloss over, over-generalize or not go. Lyn is clear and forthright when sharing about her self, without pretense and is not ambiguous about her past, its impact or the hope and healing that she has experienced.

I’ve always thought of the Bible as a man’s book. Lyn makes the Bible a woman’s book.

She always takes a person to the truth that God loves them, and reminds them that their past and present struggles do not change that. She gently, but clearly and directly shares the truth with them and deposits them at the foot of the cross so they can see their Savior, not her.

Lyn is fully present in the moment whether speaking to a crowd or to one person.

I so enjoy listening to Lyn’s teaching. God uses her to speak loudly in my heart every time!
