Still the One

Guys
I read a lot of writing by guys – pastors, writers, ministry leaders, and leadership gurus. Their unique voices make them interesting.
One thing most of them have in common, however, is referencing sports. They either refer to a recent or upcoming sporting event, or they use them as illustrations. They share their own sports experiences and often talk about how their wives cope with their sports hobby. No matter the topic, they manage to work sports into it. While those references don’t mean anything to me, I understand it’s a “guy” thing that’s important to them. I have accepted that sports is a huge part of guy thinking.
My Guy
That said … I am so happy, happy beyond words, really happy, over-the-moon kind of happy, that my husband doesn’t care about sports. We even live in a football crazed state where he grew up, and he does not care. Our Saturdays are free. We don’t buy tickets, drive hours, or fly places to watch games. He doesn’t read about it, talk about it, look forward to it, and plan for it. We live sports free, and I love it!
He was a late-in-life surprise baby, if you know what I mean. His mother had lots of time for him. She taught him how to do laundry, some basic cooking, to wait patiently, to be attentive, and to shop. He was a renaissance man before it was trendy. He’s smart (scary smart) and well spoken. The clincher? The thing that gave him the final edge over the other guys? He’s tall. I’m 5’8” and love my stilettos. I told God I really wanted a guy who was at least 6’3” and I got one 6’5”!!! I don’t have any heels that make me taller than 6’5”.
My guy is the perfect guy for me. That’s why he’s still my valentine after so many years.
What makes your significant other unique and perfect for you?
