Meet the Skeptic
Do people you talk with seem confused about spiritual things?
Do you hear things about good people going to heaven, or how each of us should choose what is right and wrong for ourselves?
Do you know Christians who believe in evolution?
Do you want to feel more confident when talking with non-Christians?
Is anyone around you hostile toward Christianity, God, or the Bible?
If you answered yes to any of those questions, then I have the book for you!

Embracing the Unchangeables

I first remember hearing this foundational principle taught when I was 16 -- learn to accept, be content with, and thrive in the unchangeables God has given.
Some of those would include:
Biological parents
Birth date and year
Height
and …
gender, or physical DNA.
Surrendering the unchangeables to God leads to depth of character that is obtained no other way. Accepting the way God set our stage, enables us to play out the richest of stories. Resisting those, on the other hand, leads to turmoil, pain, frustration, destruction, dysfunction and brokenness.
Only Love

Crucifixion. The worst death imaginable. Torn and bleeding flesh, snapped tendons, joints pulled out of socket, crushing pain, dehydration, nakedness, exposure to the elements, insects stinging, birds pecking, hours of agony, and people watching. Why would anyone volunteer for that?
Love. A love that transcends humanity. A love fueled by purity, holiness, selflessness and humility. A love that knows no bounds, never ends, and never changes.
Only that kind of other-worldly love could go to such a gruesome death, not just willingly but with the anticipation of joy.
Good to Great Content

Recently, I was asked how to write Bible studies. We talked about everything from how to phrase a good question to identifying the main point to layout design. Nuts and bolts kinds of things, which are important.
Then I got this question, “How do you decide which topics to write about and how do you get your content?”
I wasn’t expecting that because I’ve never asked it.
Facing Fear

Something Scary
A couple of months ago, I leapt into the unknown. I faced a scary thing, prayed a lot, took a deep breath, and jumped. Into the GRE.
GRE stands for Graduate Record Examination. It’s a four hour test that most graduate schools require for entrance. It covers verbal and critical thinking skills, math, and analytical writing.
I hadn’t taken a test since college … which was a long time ago. I had studied for several weeks and felt pretty good about everything but the math. Oh, the math! I hadn’t done geometry since eighth grade.
Does a Wedding Dress Matter?

Is it just a dress?
I saw a fashion segment on TV yesterday that made me sad. Black wedding dresses by the queen of wedding dresses, Vera Wang.
I love Vera Wang! I love fashion. If I wasn’t so passionately in love with Jesus and called to give my life away in ministry, I would have pursued a career in fashion. I wanted to be the Editor-in-Chief of Vogue. So it’s not that I don’t get it or that I’m fashion challenged.
The dresses were beautiful but it was the context in which they were shown and for which they are intended that sadden me.
